The Hawthorne neighborhood has acquired its share of media attention in recent years.  It is  known for a vibrant urban vibe with attitude!  The nearby Belmont Neighborhood has been the sibling that is too young to be invited to the party.  Not anymore.  Belmont is all grown up and ready to meet you!

The Belmont neighborhood is located in SouthEast Portland.  This retail and residential area runs from 31st Ave to 60th Ave along SE Belmont Street. The Hawthorne neighborhood is a few blocks South. An excellent walking map can be found here :  .

The variety of restaurants in the Belmont neighborhood is astounding.  

  • Would you like a cupcake?  Don’t miss Saint Cupcake at 3300 SE Belmont.

  • Traditional french crepes ?  Try Suzette Creperie at 3342 SE Belmont.

  • A hand crafted drink ? Stay right where you are.  Suzette Creperie features hand crafted cocktails. Try the Martinique. House made cola, rum, ice and lime.

  • Fried grasshoppers ?  No worries.  This neighborhood has got you covered.  Seriously. La Calaca Comelona at 2304 SE Belmont offers this unusual snack.

The retail experience complements the cuisine.

A trip to Movie Madness is mandatory!  Movie Madness claims to have the world’s most extensive video, DVD, Blu Ray rental selection!  They also have a museum of movie costumes and memorabilia.  4320 SE Belmont Street.

Star Flower Passion at 3411 SE Belmont is a floral boutique with fresh flowers, plants, hand made goods, pottery and essential oils.  It celebrates beauty in a natural and simplistic manner that is distinctive.

Made Studio  is a gallery of handcrafted furniture. They offer a few ready made pieces but much of it is made to order. 2940-b SE Belmont.   

Places of Interest

The Historic Belmont Firehouse is a popular local landmark.  This century old brick firehouse now houses a museum and the offices of the Portland Fire Department Public Safety division.  It is open for tour and can be rented for Birthday parties and special events.  900 SE 35th Avenue.

The Lone Fir Cemetery, SE 20th and Morrison streets, is a pioneer cemetery.  The old carved stone grave markers serve as a link in time to Portland’s past.  The large variety of trees qualify this space to be an arboretum with dozens of bird species.  There are areas dedicated to veterans, fire fighters, Chinese workers and more. Bike riders and walkers are welcome.

The Belmont Street Fair is a neighborhood party for one and all!  Sponsored by The Belmont Area Business Association and The Sunnyside Neighborhood Association the fair is celebrating its 21st year!  The event will be held on September 10 , 2016 from 11am to 7 pm on SE Belmont Street.  Belmont will be closed to traffic between 33rd and 39th. This is a free event.  There will be food and drink vendors, a bounce house for kids and various art and craft sales.

The Belmont neighborhood is an original mix of old and new.  It can be traditional, timeless or a little outlandish.  If you are looking for a home in SouthEast Portland, be sure to experience the Belmont neighborhood.
